Ada Developers Academy is a non-profit organization dedicated to the coding education of women in the Seattle area and beyond. The program is named specifically for Augusta Ada Lovelace, a 19th-century mathematician, who is now considered to be the founder of computer science. The advancements that Lovelace made within algorithms and computing theory have helped to shape the way that we interpret technology today.
Ada Developers Academy looks to continue the mission of its namesake by helping shape the world of women in technology. Ada Developers Academy is dedicated to serving low-income and underrepresented minorities as it supports and educates women from all walks of life.
The Ada Developers Academy program is split into two parts, classroom education and internships. Classroom learning takes place at the Ada Developers complex in Seattle. Instruction takes place 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 24 weeks. An average day includes 3-4 hours of lecture and activity in the morning, followed by lunch with the rest of the day dedicated to project work.
Ada Developers Academy is so dedicated to the employment and job placement of its students that it has partnered with a variety of companies to offer exclusive internships. That's where the second part of the program comes in. At the end of your classroom instruction, you will interview with 6 companies. You will then be placed with one of the companies to intern for 5 months. During this time you will work 35 hours a week, time for which you will be paid minimum wage. Every Thursday, you will visit the Ada Developers Academy campus where you will continue to learn to technology and coding concepts as you prepare for your full time job interviews. Once you complete both the classroom and internship portions of the program, you are then eligible for Ada’s postgraduate support. This includes company introductions, mock interviews, and access to full time interview loops with partner companies. Ada’s 333 cohort graduates have had great success when it comes to job placement and the numbers speak for themselves. An average of 78% of interns receive a job offer for their current company within the five month span of their partnered internship. On average, Ada alumni have seen an income increase of 126% post graduation. Ada graduates have totaled over 24 million dollars in new salaries upon graduation from the program. Ada prides itself on the exclusivity of its company partners. Major internship opportunities at Ada include companies such as Google, Uber, Amazon, Microsoft, Hulu, Indeed, Zillow, and many more.
As part of its mission, Ada Developers Academy is completely free to attend. For assistance with living expenses during the program’s classroom instruction period, Ada Developers Academy has partnered with Craft3 to offer low interest rate loans. Additionally, you’ll be placed in a 5-month internship after your classroom education where you will earn a stipend billed for 35 hours of work at minimum wage.
